“For me, this is an opportunity to give back, share my knowledge and assist the next generation to create impact in business and succeed in life”
- Brad Cocks
Brad’s Story
I’ve always been drawn to the big, slightly unreasonable question: “Why not me?”
As a kid, I wasn’t the obvious high performer. I was the short, tubby one who dodged school sport and was easy to underestimate. But I loved sports anyway, especially tennis and motorsport, and I loved the feeling of working towards something that looked just out of reach. Over time, “you can’t do that” became fuel. My quiet response was always, “watch me.”
That mindset has shaped pretty much everything since.
In my 20s, I discovered endurance sports and found a new gear. Ironman triathlons, marathons, endurance mountain bike races, a 1,200km charity ride across two states. I loved the challenge, the discipline, and the headspace that comes from trying to achieve something most people only talk about to learning how to manage your energy and staying focused on the next step. It taught me that most “big” achievements are just a lot of small, consistent decisions stacked over time.
Professionally, live events became my playground and my classroom. Over more than 20 years, I’ve created, produced, directed and managed hundreds of high‑profile corporate and special events around the world across nearly every industry - be that exclusive behind closed doors for some of the most high profile brands right through to the large scale public events. I’ve worked with executive teams, boards, production crews, volunteers, and sponsors, often all on the same project.
If you’ve ever been behind the scenes of a major event, you’ll know it’s business in fast‑forward. There’s no “we’ll ship another one to you later” or “we’ll try again next quarter.” That intensity forces you to get very good at planning, communication, decision‑making and leadership under pressure. It also gives you a front‑row seat to how people really behave when the stakes are high.
Over the years, I’ve become the person people call when things are starting to wobble-when a big event is at risk, when a team is stuck, or when a project needs a calm head and a clear plan. I’ve helped realign teams and events in a matter of weeks, guided tough conversations between stakeholders, and turned “we’re in trouble” moments into outcomes people are proud of. Ultimately, it's process from concept to outcome I love the most. Watching others experience the moments with their own senses and the joy that brings to people.
I’ve also had the chance to share what I’ve learned on event stages speaking to leaders and teams from across the events, business and creative industries. Those keynotes are personal as much as professional; I talk openly about the highs, the breakdowns, and what it actually takes to perform over the long haul without burning everything (and everyone) out.
The path hasn’t always been smooth. I’ve pushed my body and mind too far, hit burnout, lost friendships, experienced workplace bullying and been removed from roles I loved. Those moments forced me to rebuild, learning acceptance, boundaries, resilience and what high performance really looks like over the long term. They’ve shaped how I now work with leaders and teams: direct, honest, practical, and with zero interest in glossy theory that doesn’t hold up in real life.
These days, I live in Melbourne, Australia, with my family. Life is full and noisy in the best way from school runs, kids’ activities, shared traditions and new adventures. We love to travel, take on new challenges, have good conversations and of course endurance sports and motorsport is still high on my agenda.
Professionally, my work now sits at the intersection of everything I’ve learned:
I act as a fractional leadership facilitator for executives and teams across Australia, helping them align, make real decisions, and move forward together.
I still take on a small number of special event projects each year, where the outcome really matters, to satisfy my creative side and where I can bring the full weight of my experience to the table.
I speak and run workshops on topics that are close to home for me:, setting goals and plans, leading under pressure, resilience, and what it means to build a life and career that actually feels like yours.
And I give back to the industry that shaped my career by co-hosting the podcast, An Eventful Life, a labour of love.
Whether I’m in a boardroom, backstage, or on stage, my work is about the same thing: helping people see what’s possible, decide what matters, and move towards it with clarity and intent.
